14 years guarding a grave.
Now guarding your bags forever.
In the misty streets of Victorian Edinburgh, a humble night watchman named John Gray patrolled the city with his faithful companion — a scruffy little Skye Terrier named Bobby.
When tragedy struck and John passed from tuberculosis in 1858, he was buried in Greyfriars Kirkyard. But Bobby refused to accept goodbye. For the next 14 years, through freezing winters and howling gales, Bobby sat vigil at his master's grave — rain or shine, day and night.
The people of Edinburgh were so moved they fed him every day. The Lord Provost himself awarded Bobby the Freedom of the City — complete with a custom collar and license. When Bobby finally passed in 1872, he was buried just outside the kirkyard gates, where a magnificent bronze statue now stands eternal watch.
